Au milieu des années 50, les maisons de disques Motown et Stax deviennent des références incontournables en matière de musique Soul. La Motown, basée à Détroit, délivre au public des chansons de Soul et R&B accessibles au grand public qui lui valent le surnom de «Hitsville USA». La Stax, qui représente la Soul de Memphis, se démarque par un son plus dur, proche des racines Gospel et Blues mais aussi influencé par la musique Country. On la surnomme «Soulsville USA» par opposition à son concurrent du Nord. Une grande partie de l'histoire de la musique Soul s'est écrite dans les studios de ces deux maisons de disques absolument mythiques ! Il était donc judicieux que Martha High, membre de The Jewels aux débuts des 60's et choriste de James Brown pendant 25 ans, nous propose de revivre cet! âge d'or. Erica was happy we were all there, but I was pretty sure she could tell I didn't want to be there. I mean, I love Erica.
